Cutting edge technology: Stellar Blade (PS5)

The long-awaited Stellar Blade (formerly Project EVE) is an action RPG developed by Korean studio shift up and published by Sony.

EVE arrives from an off-world colony where humanity has sought refuge, but her return to Earth is a disaster. As the 7th Air Force begins its operation to retake Earth from the Naitib control, a fierce surprise attack destroys her unit.

The first impression of the game is incredible. The graphics are unique and the characters, enemies and environments look amazing. The game really lives up to expectations. Many call the game a mix of NieR and Souls-like games, and that’s what it feels like.

Towards freedom

The future of humanity is at stake in Stellar Blade, a brand new story-driven action adventure for PS5. Earth, ravaged by strange and powerful creatures, has been abandoned, and the remnants of the destroyed human race have fled to off-world colonies.

EVE of the 7th Air Force, who arrives from the colony, arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear mission: to save humanity by taking Earth back from the Naitibs. But as EVE takes on the Naitibs one by one and unravels the mysteries of the past in the ruins of human civilization, she realizes that her task is anything but straightforward. In fact, nothing is quite what it seems…

In addition to the main story, the game has a lot of side quests that you can do to earn in-game currency and parts to improve your weapons and equipment. Collectibles are old-world cans that you can collect to earn rewards such as equipment and, for example, dozens of new outfit options.

Attack, dodge, parry

The controller button layout is pretty much the same as in other similar games. The game is quite challenging, as even normal enemies can do a lot of damage to the player, especially at the beginning of the game.

Tougher and more challenging boss enemies, on the other hand, will turn the player into mush with a few hits if you don’t dodge or parry them in time.

The game also has small challenge tasks scattered around the game world, from timed box decoding to precision shooting. Skills in the game must be unlocked by collecting experience points, which can then be used to unlock and improve skills, such as double jump and increased attack damage.

Absolutely amazing

The graphics are absolutely stunning. The environments, characters and enemies fit together perfectly and the game is also a bit scary and dark when needed. The game can be given a minus for the yellow paint syndrome, although it is not as noticeable as in some other games.

The animations are beautifully functional and the power of the attacks comes out well in the animations.

The music is awesome and fits the game perfectly. The effects enhance the feeling of power of the attacks and the soundscape is excellent in all respects.

Stellar Blade is available on the PlayStation Store for a cheap €79.95 and the Deluxe version is available for €89.95. A free demo of the game is also available. Although the price is quite high, it can be said that the game is worth the money.

Overall, Stellar Blade is an excellent action RPG that offers a lot of content for the price. The graphics are stunning, the combat is challenging and rewarding, and the story is engaging. If you’re looking for a new action RPG to play on PS5, Stellar Blade is a must-buy.

Additional notes:

  • The game is a great experience for fans of NieR and Souls-like games.
  • The combat is challenging but fair, and there is a lot of depth to the system.
  • The story is well-written and engaging, and the characters are memorable.
  • The graphics and music are top-notch.

Score: 9.7/10

Pros:

  • Characters
  • Graphics
  • Music

Cons:

  • Yellow paint syndrome
